Poets for Palestine

Join Santa Feans for Justice in Palestine and Southwest Coalition for Palestine for “Poets for Palestine”, an evening of readings by local poets and writers on February 16th at Hecho a Mano Gallery! The event brings community together in the spirit and legacy of voices such as Fadwa Tuqan, Palestinian feminist and poet, about whom an Israeli defense minister once declared: “One of her poems is capable of creating ten resistance fighters.” We remember that to create is to exist, and, in times of mass silencing like today, to recite is indeed to resist.

Featuring: Chaya Babu, Hakim Bellamy, Alejandro Jimenez, Layli Long Soldier, Sarah Al Qirem, Isabel Ribe, Beata Tsosie Peña, and Fatima van Hattum with Nikesha Breeze as the MC and Anas Abuamar offering a prayer.

All funds will go to the Middle East Children’s Alliance for their work in Gaza. With a $30 minimum suggested donation (your greater generosity is most welcome and no one will be turned away for lack of funds), guests will receive refreshments catered by Kohinoor and a special surprise literary gift from the Lannan Foundation!

Doors open at 6:30pm, readings begin at 7pm.
